Pitfalls To Avoid for Private Scholarships

It just does not seem fair but the fact remains that there is not a lot of higher dollar private scholarships for art majors. Most are in the $250 - $2,000 range.

I guess we need more companies like Apple to put up some serious bucks for art students. After all successful companies like Apple have invested billions in sleek new designs of their products and very creative marketing in the digital and print media to stand out from the crowd. Their profits and share price has increased to record heights because of this unique ability to marry attractive design with leading technology.

I just bet there were a few talented art majors who made impressive contributions along with the tecnical wizards that helped design the amazing string of commercial successes like the IPod.

Besides the coporate world, who hasn't stood impressed at a public place where well done works of art caught your attention if not down right inspired you?! That's got to be worth more than a $250 scholarship to a talented and aspiring young art major!

Until that day of increased art scholarship funding comes, here are the pitfalls to avoid:

  1. Don't waste too much time chasing private scholarships. Most of the grant money for college is at the school themselves.
  2. Be sure you compare a wide circle of choices of schools. Avoid the temptation to "lock-in" too early.
  3. Learn how to compare school's competing offers and negotiate directly with the college for the best deal. This can be worth thousands of dollars a year and help you avoid decades of painful repayments of debt.

What Clients Are Saying

“…without your involvement, we never would have thought to approach the college directly…. We got the documentation together to obtain residency, created letters to send and were granted residency which translated to $20,000 in savings.

THEN we went back and said, 'don’t take away her out-of-state scholarship just because she is now a resident' and got OSU to maintain the $7,000 scholarship".

"We would like to express our appreciation for the service that our daughter received.

She is our first child to go through the college application process, and it was very intimidating for our whole family. You were able to create a clear, understandable path for our daughter.

As a result of all of this hard work, our daughter was offered three presidential scholarships at various colleges, including a full tuition scholarship to a private college.

Thanks again, and we look forward to working with you on our son's upcoming college search."

"HWS presented an above average financial aid award, however, it included some work study. With your guidance, I went back and asked that the work study be converted to either grant or scholarship to relieve the financial burden while allowing my daughter to focus on academics.

They came back with the conversion AND continued to keep her eligible for an equal amount of money through work study."
