SAT and ACT Differences
SAT primarily measures aptitude in math, verbal and writing skills. Strengthening vocabulary is one example of a preparation strategy that will increase your SAT scores.
ACT focuses more on knowledge and is more of an achievement test.
ACT tends to be relatively easier to score higher on.
Since almost all colleges accept either standardized tests it is important to take both at least twice. Always remember that even if a particular test score, especially initially, are low, colleges look at the BEST score in their admission and school based scholarship decisions.
How to Increase your SAT scores
- Taking the SAT exam again increases your SAT scores, often by 150 points.
- Taking HS AP courses improves your critical thinking, writing and math skills.
- Courses to help prepare you for the SAT start as early as your HS freshman year and positively influence your SAT scores.
