Career Direct Service

This service is anchored by a proprietary Career Direct service tool that provides students with insights in four critical areas:

  • personality - your temperament and how you are "hard-wired"
  • interests - what topics and fields you enjoy the most
  • skills - what you naturally excel at
  • values - the core beliefs most important to you

It's always amazing to me that a questionaire that only takes about 20-40 minutes to complete can be packed with so much rich insights. However, 10 years of research and a lot of validity studies have proven the Career Direct instrument to be helpful to thousands of people.

Remember, this is not about you finding a field that is the "hot" field to get into. I find these annual rankings and listings unduly influence students to choose career fields that are just not the right fit for them.

Also, I spent a fair amount of time in my past career as an HR Director trying to help people who found themselves in the wrong type of work. Sometimes this was after many years of expensive education and job experience.

Rather, Career Direct is an accurate indicator of what are the most likely fields of work that have the highest degree of fit to the type of person you naturally are.

This tool is just one way to give you helpful feedback as a student what kinds of work are most suitable to you BEFORE you make key decisions such as your major or college choice.

What Clients Are Saying

“…without your involvement, we never would have thought to approach the college directly…. We got the documentation together to obtain residency, created letters to send and were granted residency which translated to $20,000 in savings.

THEN we went back and said, 'don’t take away her out-of-state scholarship just because she is now a resident' and got OSU to maintain the $7,000 scholarship".

"We would like to express our appreciation for the service that our daughter received.

She is our first child to go through the college application process, and it was very intimidating for our whole family. You were able to create a clear, understandable path for our daughter.

As a result of all of this hard work, our daughter was offered three presidential scholarships at various colleges, including a full tuition scholarship to a private college.

Thanks again, and we look forward to working with you on our son's upcoming college search."

"HWS presented an above average financial aid award, however, it included some work study. With your guidance, I went back and asked that the work study be converted to either grant or scholarship to relieve the financial burden while allowing my daughter to focus on academics.

They came back with the conversion AND continued to keep her eligible for an equal amount of money through work study."
